Paper Submission Guidelines for 46th Annual Chacmool Conference Publication

Trading Spaces: The Archaeology of Interaction, Migration and Exchange

Paper Submissions must be received no later than March 31, 2014. Papers received after this deadline will not be considered for publication.

Submissions must follow the SAA style guide. The style guide can be found at the following address: http://www.saa.org/StyleGuideText/tabid/985/Default.aspx.

The maximum number of pages permitted per submission is 30. This page limit includes the text, notes, references, tables, figures, and figure captions. Figure captions should follow at the end of the document and pictures should be submitted separately.

When preparing your manuscript, please keep the following in mind:

  • DO NOT imbed any graphics, tables, or images within the text. Please submit them as a separate file (EPS, TIFF, JPG, or XLS). Please place the first reference to each figure in the text in bold. Figure captions should be included as part of the figure as well as on a separate figure list at the end of your document.
  • Images must be either 300 or 600 dpi.
  • Double-space all sections of the manuscript, including abstracts, block quotes in the text, acknowledgements, reference cites, notes, figure captions, tables, and table titles.
  • Margins at top, bottom, and sides must be 1.5 inches (3.7 cm). Margins can be changes in Microsoft Word by selecting File, then Page Setup; or in Microsoft Word 2010 by selecting Page Layout, then Margins.
  • Use 12-point Times New Roman font. Do not hyphenate words at the ends of lines (i.e., turn off word wrap), and do not justify the text (i.e., leave a ragged right-hand margin).
  • Do not indent the first line of paragraphs, but leave a space between paragraphs.
  • Transmit an electronic file in either DOC or DOCX format to chacmool2013@gmail.com. No paper copy is required.

Trading Spaces:

The Archaeology of Interaction, Migration and Exchange

University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada

November 7-9, 2013

The Chacmool Conference this year is focused on the understanding of cultures worldwide and across time through interpretation and context of the movement of people, materials and ideas. The theme allows for exploration of topics such as conflict and interaction spheres, landscape archaeology, trade, and of course, interaction, migration, and exchange. The interaction, migration, and the exchange of goods and ideas between people have been an effective adaptive strategy as well as being an integral part of human civilization, from hunter-gatherer groups to the metropolises that dot the globe today. These are undeniably important topics for future and current consideration in archaeology.
