This page is designed to compile information on Nicaraguan archaeology for use by scholars and all those interested in this fascinating topic. Nicaraguan archaeology has a relatively long history, with early discoveries described by 19th century explorers such as Ephraim Squier, Karl Bovallius, and J.F. Bransford.  Yet for nearly 100 years scientific archaeology was virtually absent, with the majority of work done by private collectors.  Since 1990, however, Nicaraguan archaeology has experience a renaissance, with several prominent projects, and as a consequence new interpretations are being made.  Some of the topic covered on this website include:
