Groundstone metates/thrones

Groundstone metates are common tools for food preparation throughout Central America.  In some cases, such as on the Atlantic watershed of Costa Rica, these can be quite elaborate.  These 'flying panel metates' may have functioned as thrones. Illustrated are some examples from the University of Calgary Archaeology Department museum.
