Mission Statement:

The pre-Hispanic and Colonial populations of Central America have been relatively under-studied, especially in comparison with their neighbors to the north and south, and currently there is no widely available journal to report discoveries and developing interpretations. Whereas profound environmental, sociopolitical, and socioeconomic conditions have limited investigations during most of the 20th century, the region is currently enjoying a renaissance of scholarly interest. The Journal of Central American Art and Archaeology intends to fill a gap by offering scholars a venue in which to present new data and interpretations. The journal hopes to draw upon scholarship from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama as well as integrating relevant themes involving Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and Northern South America.

The JCA3 is intended not so much as a 'journal' per se, but more as a clearinghouse for recent ideas, published in a timely fashion soon after initial presentation. As such, we encourage scholars to send clean and illustrated copies of conference presentations for immediate posting. After cursory review by the editorial staff, these will be posted to the web page. This is NOT intended to supersede more rigorous publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, but rather as a means of communicating ideas quickly and thereby generating dialogue and encouraging networking opportunities.
